Metso signed Value Adding Reseller agreement with Kharafi National

Metso has signed a Value Adding Reseller (VAR) agreement with Kuwaiti Kharafi National KSC as of October 21st, 2009. With this agreement Metso grants Kharafi National the right and license to market and sell metsoDNA CR automation system for energy and process industry customers within the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Egypt, Syria, Lebanon and Iraq. The GCC countries consist of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and the Sultanate of Oman.

Kharafi National is a leading project developer of infrastructure in water and wastewater treatment and reclamation, in district cooling, solid waste management and oil recovery in the Middle East and Africa. Kharafi National is also a leading contractor and service provider of facilities management for petroleum, chemicals, power, water and commercial sectors in the area. They have an annual turnover of approaching US$1 billion and over 25,000 employees.

“We are looking forward to this co-operation. Metso has the technology and Kharafi National has the area knowledge and is well established in the area. The first steps were taken this spring and the negotiations concluded with this agreement in October,” tells Claudio Palmieri, Senior Operations Manager in Kharafi National.

This agreement is an excellent chance for Metso’s Power and Process Automation business to enter the market in the Middle East and Northern Africa. “We have our first common project ongoing already: Sabiya Pumping Station located at Doha West Power Station in Kuwait. The pumping station is pumping fuel oil to Sabiya Power Station, which is located around 100km from Doha West. We are looking forward to many new projects together in the near future,” says Kari Heikkilä, Director, Automation Projects and VAR customers.

According to the agreement, Kharafi National will offer their customers the metsoDNA CR automation system, information management and mechanical condition monitoring solutions in cooperation with Metso. After extensive training, Kharafi National will be responsible for selling and engineering the automation solution as part of its own project, and Metso will give the needed support to Kharafi National.

Metso is a global supplier of sustainable technology and services for mining, construction, power generation, automation, recycling and the pulp and paper industries - with over  26,500 employees in more than 50 countries.
