BASF to grant sublicenses of ExxonMobil gas treatment technology

 - Highly selective and effective FLEXSORB technology
 - BASF is further extending its portfolio in selective gas treatment
 - OASE technology

 - EMRE benefits from BASF’s global market reach

March 18, 2015   + + +   BASF and ExxonMobil Research and Engineering Company (EMRE) have concluded an agreement on EMRE’s FLEXSORBTM technology. The agreement provides BASF with the right to sublicense the technology and supply the related solvent to third parties.

The FLEXSORB technology is well known in the industry for its selective removal of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) in presence of carbon dioxide (CO2). The selectivity advantage allows achieving high H2S removal at low solvent circulation rates resulting in lower energy consumption compared to conventional processes. The reliable and simple-to-operate process is characterized by low corrosion and lower foaming compared to conventional gas treating solvents. The FLEXSORB technology has a commercially proven track record since 1983 with over 120 reference plants.

“With the license from EMRE we are further strengthening our OASE® gas treatment portfolio especially in the selective gas treatment area,” said Dr. Andreas Northemann, head of the global gas treatment business in BASF’s Intermediates division.

“The high selectivity and effectiveness of our FLEXSORB gas treatment process makes it attractive and competitive in new markets. The agreement with BASF will extend the reach of this technology around the globe,” said Vince Alberico, EMRE’s head of Technology Sales and Licensing Department.

With more than 40 years of experience, BASF offers its customers efficient solutions for the treatment of various gases such as natural gas, synthesis gas, and biogas. Worldwide, these solutions have been proven and demonstrated in over 350 reference plants. BASF markets its range of technologies, gas treatment agents, and complete technical services under the brand OASE® – Gas Treating Excellence by BASF.
