GE Oil & Gas starts production of flexible risers destined for
Prelude, Shell’s landmark natural gas project
|
|
April 11, 2016 + + + GE Oil & Gas
has started production of four high pressure, high temperature
(HP/HT) dynamic flexible risers destined for the world’s largest floating
liquefied natural gas (FLNG) facility, Prelude, to be operated by Shell,
located 250km off the coast of Western Australia. FLNG is a
revolution in natural gas production that promises to improve the
viability of smaller, more remote or environmentally-sensitive fields that
would otherwise be too costly or difficult to develop. Working together to
unlock these vital ‘stranded’ resources, GE has partnered with Shell on
the project since 2011, following an initial order for turbomachinery
equipment ... Read more |

OMV: Barents Sea well proves viability of shallow horizontal development
drilling
|
|
April 06, 2016 + + + A well test via the Wisting
Central II horizontal appraisal well in the Barents Sea has recorded a
flow rate of more than 5,000 boe/d and has therefore proved the viability
of shallow horizontal drilling needed to develop Wisting field, OMV AS
reported.
The objectives of the well, drilled in Wisting field about
310 km north of Hammerfest, were to confirm the potential of the discovery
by proving the presence of hydrocarbons in the undrilled Wisting Central
South and Central West segments, and to prove the technical concept of
long-reach horizontal wells in a shallow reservoir about 250 m below
seabed ... read more |

DNV GL Oil & Gas: Joint industry project seeks to advance subsea standardization
|
|
Dec. 10, 2015 + + + Over the past 15 years, subsea technology has
moved from subsea wells, manifolds, flowlines, and templates, to include
subsea boosting, separation, and now compression. In the near
future, deepwater wells will require more complex subsea equipment.
Looking further ahead, the industry expects to see automated production
entirely located on the seabed, piping oil and gas directly to shore
through the “subsea factory” concept ... read more |

platform offshore Norway with two new power compressors on the topsides
|
|
Oct. 23, 2015 + + + ABB has delivered its second
power-from-shore system to the Statoil-operated Troll A gas platform in
the North Sea, 70 km (43 mi) west of the Kollsnes gas treatment plant near
Bergen.
As with the previous system, the aim is to power two compressors fitted to
the platform’s topsides to compensate for decreasing pressure in the
reservoir. The 3,000- ton compressor modules, which were installed last
year, began operating earlier this month.
Electricity is supplied using ABB’s HVDC Light technology, which takes
alternating current (AC) from Norway’s national grid, converting it to
direct current (DC) and transmitting it to the platform via 70 km-long
cables ... read more |
