Oil and gas production in the North Sea: Bilfinger renewing service contracts with Statoil and Marathon Oil with a total value of € 130 million
Bilfinger Industrial Services has renewed comprehensive outline contracts for the maintenance of oil and gas production facilities in the North Sea. The agreements with energy companies Statoil and Marathon Oil run for periods of three years and have a total value of € 130 million.
Gas liquefaction in Northern Norway
At the gas liquefaction plant on the Island of Melkøya near the Norwegian city of Hammerfest, Bilfinger Industrier Norge is providing extensive insulation, scaffolding and coating services. The company has been a service partner for Statoil since 2006. The renewal of the contract by three years testifies to the customer’s satisfaction with Bilfinger Industrier Norge, providing a basis for it to expand its activities in Hammerfest.
With its employees, Bilfinger Industrier Norge has extensive experience in the region north of the Polar Circle. The extreme climatic conditions therefore call for particular technical expertise. Around one third of the employees come from the local region. In recruiting new staff, the company wants to continue making use of local employees, engineers and managers.
The gas liquefaction plant on the Island of Melkøya processes the gas sourced from the “Snow White” (Norwegian “Snøhvit) gas field. Located in the Norwegian shelf sea, the gas field is exploited using equipment anchored to the seafloor; no facilities are used on the sea surface. The gas is transported to the gas liquefaction plant through a pipeline with a length of 143 kilometres.
Platforms off the coast of Scotland
Bilfinger Salamis UK has also renewed service contracts with Marathon Oil U.K. for a period of several years. The two companies have been working together for 15 years. The maintenance services are provided on the Brae Alpha, Brae Bravo and East Brae platforms off the Scottish coast and include height access work, electrical maintenance and materials control.
The new contract secures the continuity of employment for 130 people at Bilfinger Salamis UK both on the platforms and on shore. With the renewal, the company will also be able to contribute new technologies and solutions to the partnership, offering the customer added value.
Just a few weeks earlier, Bilfinger Salamis UK had received a major contract from its long-standing customer Chevron worth € 60 million for the provision of maintenance services on several North Sea
platforms.
