GE valves chosen for offshore oil and gas platform in the North Sea

GE (NYSE: GE) control valve technology has been selected for an offshore production platform that is a key component in the development of the Hejre oil and gas field in the Danish sector of the North Sea. The development project is expected to increase the reliability of Denmark’s oil and gas supply and is a significant step toward the country achieving energy independence.

GE Oil & Gas will supply control valves from its Masoneilan product line to Technip, the engineering, procurement and construction company that is building the Hejre offshore platform in partnership with DSME. DONG E&P, a subsidiary of DONG Energy, the Danish-based energy company, is the operator of the field, which is expected to produce 16 million cubic meters of oil and 10 billion cubic meters of gas during its operational lifetime.

The Hejre offshore platform features a wellhead, processing facilities and other equipment and supports the production of five subsea wells. It will be capable of producing up to 76 million standard cubic feet of gas and 35,000 barrels of oil per day when it enters commercial operation in 2015.

The GE valves will be used to control flow, pressure, level or temperature on separators, coolers and scrubbers, injection pumps, export pumps and metering for the Hejre project.

“With an installed base of more than 3 million valves, our expertise in valve technology is well established and was a key factor in winning this significant contract,” said Tim Povall, Europe region leader for GE’s Measurement & Control business. “Our heritage in valve technology dates back more than a century, and over that time, our customers have learned that they can count on our products and services to protect their process assets.”

GE Oil & Gas’ North Sea knowledge and experience helped secure the Hejre deal. GE Oil & Gas is a major supplier of technology and services for the North Sea oil and gas sector and has previously provided subsea systems and other types of equipment for several projects in the region, including compressors and expanders for the Hejre project. GE Oil & Gas also has provided technology for developments in the Buzzard, Ettrick and Cheviot fields in the North Sea. Further supporting its efforts in the region, GE operates a testing and assembly plant and a subsea monitoring and remote technology center at Nailsea in the United Kingdom.

Measurement & Control is a leading innovator in advanced, sensor-based measurement, non-destructive testing, inspection and condition monitoring and flow and process control solutions. Providing industrial healthcare for customers' most critical assets, the business delivers accuracy, productivity and safety to a wide range of industries including power generation, aerospace, metals and transportation.
