HOERBIGER Automation Technology Valve Automation: Electrohydraulic
valve actuator with an electric ‘look & feel’
Simplify Your
Actuators Intelligent Valve Actuator TriVAX with Integrated Safety
Function
Nov 27, 2014 + + + The enhanced electrohydraulic valve actuator TriVAX as well as the
TriVAX flex made by HOERBIGER are once again setting trends in the process
industry. These fundamentally reconceptualized valve actuators will take
center stage at the 2014 Valve World in Düsseldorf. TriVAX is the
alternative concept to the complexity of conventional actuators and
facilitates everything from installation, to commissioning, to
maintenance. It allows users to operate their systems easily,
cost-effectively, reliably and safely in demanding applications.
"Systems must become increasingly simpler. Complexity is a thing of the
past," explains Marcus Grödl, Head of the Valve Automation at HOERBIGER
Automation Technology. This will benefit the process industry in
particular: the improved intelligent electrohydraulic valve actuators
TriVAX and TriVAX flex are as easy to install and handle as an
all-electric drive unit, yet are as powerful, robust and durable as an
actuator that is entirely hydraulic. The intelligent electronics ensure
simple and intuitive operation. The integrated compact design makes it
possible to combine the advantages of three worlds of technology. TriVAX
is the name of the game. 'Tri' denotes the optimal blend of hydraulics,
mechanics and electronics, and 'VAX' is the abbreviation for 'valve
actuator', which offers versatile benefits for the customer.
The
outstanding innovation of the performance-defining component TriVAX is
setting a new standard in valve automation when it comes to efficiency
increases and upgrades of existing systems,
especially in safety-oriented industrial applications, in power plants,
and in the oil and gas industry. TriVAX replaces conventional valve
control units, which may not yet feature safety functions such as quick
action or explosion protection and do not comply with the latest
standards. Conventional actuators consist of entirely separate hydraulic,
mechanical and electrical systems. The individual components are connected
by interfaces and cables. These complex systems are often
maintenance-intensive and moreover are prone to failure and leakage.
"The TriVAX is an electrohydraulic valve actuator with an electric
'look & feel'," emphasizes Grödl. "It is as easy to install and operate as
an electric drive. The compact and closed design has not only extended the
maintenance interval to five years, it also allows for a flameproof
enclosure, providing maximum explosion protection. This way, we ensure
considerably higher economic efficiency over conventional valve actuators.
TriVAX is impressively demonstrating this with projects in power plants,
pipelines and in industry."
Compelling details
In addition to direct operation using the integrated electronics of
the TriVAX unit featuring an intuitive human-machine interface (HMI), the
valve can also be actuated via a remote control console.
Thanks to integrated interfaces to standard field buses (in preparation:
Profibus PA, HART, Foundation Fieldbus), TriVAX can also be incorporated
into existing automation concepts. The intelligent system requires only a
simple electric pulse to start the TriVAX. Marcus Grödl says: "Operators
of pipelines are able to control the butterfly valves, which often times
are located miles apart, with a TriVAX valve actuator using a simple
electric signal."
With its flame-proof encapsulated housing, the
HOERBIGER TriVAX valve actuator also ensures safe operation in areas that
are prone to explosions (Ex protection according to ATEX II2GD Ex d IIB
T4). Additional safety functions such as "Quick Action" or "Emergency
Shut-down" are also important for the process industry. This makes the
TriVAX valve actuator suitable for demanding applications in power plants
and in systems of the natural gas, oil and chemicals industries. "Thanks
to its high-capacity hydraulics, the TriVAX valve actuator is powerful,
and its innovative concept makes it easy for the user to operate," says
Marcus Grödl. "Because of its simple and piping-free design, it is
extremely reliable."
