KCA Deutag secures second strategic contract in Poland
17.11.2011 + + + KCA Deutag, one of the world’s largest international drilling contractors, announced it had been awarded a contract in Northern Poland by Gora Energy Resources, a wholly owned subsidiary of San Leon Energy.
The announcement follows KCA Deutag’s recent entry into the Polish market through a contract with Marathon Petroleum Poland, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Marathon Oil Corporation.
The Gora Energy resources primary contract is for the drilling of one exploration well and it offers the operator the option to extend the services for further wells. The work will be carried out by KCA Deutag’s 1500HP EURO-rig, the T-208, which is in place and will begin drilling imminently. The EURO-rig design is a bespoke design of KCAD Deutag and sister company Bentec, designed specifically to meet European legislative and certification requirements, required transportation load sizes, noise attenuation and environmental criteria.
KCA DEUTAG’s chief executive Holger Temmen commented: “This is very exciting coming so soon after our entry into the emerging Polish market and the European shale gas sector with the Marathon contract.
“The potential of unconventional oil and gas reserves in Europe is truly significant and we are particularly well placed to address clients’ drilling requirements, both in terms of the quality of our rig assets and our in-depth understanding of the operational and legislative environment in our home European market. We anticipate further new rig investments to address the shale gas market, as projects move from exploration to appraisal and full development.”
KCA DEUTAG is one of the world’s leading drilling and engineering contractors. It operates more than 100 drilling rigs in over than 22 countries employing 8,000 people in Africa, Europe, Russia, Middle East, the Caspian Sea and South East Asia.
