MTU Series 4000 marine engines achieve ABS NVR Certification
Diesel engines earn certification by American Bureau of Shipping following
stringent testing
February 19, 2014 + + + As the first engines in its power class the
MTU Series 4000 was recently awarded Naval Vessel Rules (NVR)
certification by the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS). The new ABS NVR
certification, a requirement for the U.S. Coast Guard’s Fast Response
Cutter (FRC) program, was awarded after 1,500 hours of testing of the 20V
4000 M73 that included extensive run times at 110% of the engine’s rated
power in a variety of extreme environmental conditions. Extensive
validation testing was also completed in commercial marine and military
applications, further demonstrating the versatility and durability of the
Series 4000. The latest certification joins the Series 8000 in the engine
portfolio of the Rolls-Royce Power Systems company MTU with ABS NVR
certification.
“The NVR certification of the Series 4000 engine is
another milestone in our long and distinguished history of providing power
and propulsion systems to navies around the world,” said Knut Mueller,
Vice President Governmental Sales at MTU Friedrichshafen GmbH.
More
than 50 years of experience and expertise makes MTU an unparalleled
partner for marine defense. The company’s Series 4000 diesel engines offer
unrivalled power density in terms of volume-to power and power-to-weight
ratio. Engineered for a low operating noise level and designed to offer
superior performance, the Series 4000’s advanced technology ensures
security at sea with exceptional fuel efficiency and reliability compared
to other engines in its class.
The American Bureau of Shipping is a
classification society with a mission to promote security of life,
property and the natural environment primarily through the development and
verification of standards for the design, construction and operational
maintenance of marine-related structures and equipment.

MTU Onsite Energy showcased new gensets at Middle East
Electricity exhibition Diesel gensets based on Series 4000
engines with power outputs up to 3,400 kVA Diesel gensets based on
Series 2000 engines with power outputs up to 1,400 kVA MTU Onsite
Energy involves distributors in its trade fair presence
February
18, 2014 + + + MTU Onsite Energy, a Rolls-Royce Power Systems brand, has
presented a new product line of gensets at Middle
East Electricity. The gensets of the new Series 4000 are based on Series
4000 diesel engines from MTU and deliver up to 3,400 kVA output. On
show at the MTU Onsite Energy booth will be the type DS02500D5S genset
which is based on the MTU 16V 4000 G23 engine. Thanks to the new design
and scope of services, the new gensets are more flexible and can more
easily be integrated into customer projects. Now lower in height, they
also come with numerous additional standard options for the customer, such
as a choice between two generator and control system manufacturers. Highly
cost-efficient, the genset engines comply with TA Luft (the German air
pollution control regulation) and Singapore’s NEA emissions rules, without
any need for external exhaust aftertreatment.
Also presented for
the first time at a trade fair has been the new genset based on MTU's
new-generation Series 2000 engines. The 18V Series 2000 G06 genset
equipped with Common Rail technology delivers power outputs up to 1,400
kVA. At the trade show, which is the biggest meeting of energy industry
professionals in the Middle East, MTU has showcased its portfolio of
diesel gensets with outputs up to 3,400 kVA and gas engine systems up to
2,150 kW. Among the exhibits are models of a 16V Series 4000 diesel genset
and a containerized Series 4000 gas-powered genset.
For
the first time, regional sales partners played a role in MTU Onsite
Energy’s trade show presentation. Among those who have given
presentations are distributors from the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and
Saudi-Arabia, among those Sawary Energy, with
whom MTU Onsite Energy recently signed a distribution agreement for sales
and service in Saudi Arabia. (See Picture )This contract covers
sales rights for 60 Hz diesel generators with power outputs up to 3,250
kWe and includes service rights for MTU and Detroit Diesel engines for
various off-highway applications.
