Siemens to implement meter data management system for WPPI utilities

30.08.2011 + + + Siemens Energy, Inc. is implementing the meter data management system (MDMS), eMeter EnergyIP® for member utilities of WPPI Energy, a regional power company serving 51 consumer-owned utilities in Wisconsin, Michigan and Iowa. Siemens will configure, deliver and support the project implementation, which began in June. A comprehensive MDMS will provide WPPI Energy personnel with the visibility and capability to use meter data to perform load forecasting and analysis, provide peak load management, develop new pricing programs and enable new demand response programs. This implementation will be hosted on-site at the WPPI Energy facilities in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, and will be shared to support other member-owned utilities the company services.

With the multi-organizational capabilities of eMeter EnergyIP®, Siemens will be able to configure the MDMS to support the business processes of each WPPI Energy member utility, which will allow WPPI Energy to provide each utility with secure access to its own data in one highly cost-effective solution.

"For a regional power company like WPPI Energy, it is important to have an MDMS that can support multiple utilities with the same instance of software," said Thierry Godart, president, Smart Grid Applications, Siemens Energy, Inc. "eMeter EnergyIP has proven to be the only MDMS that can support multi-organizational functionality with one software installation. That functionality, paired with the efficiency and reliability of Siemens' project management, will result in a streamlined implementation process for WPPI Energy and at the same time, lead to a quality Smart Grid deployment."

"WPPI Energy sought a long-term Smart Grid partner offering a flexible software platform with proven Smart Grid deployments, and we found that with Siemens and eMeter," said Mike Peters, President and CEO at WPPI Energy. "We also liked the simplicity of the software set-up. We only have to install the software once, and all of our 51 member utilities can benefit. Other options we researched would require us to implement the software repeatedly, which is time-consuming and cost-prohibitive."

Siemens understands the complete energy conversion chain and is able to transform today's grid into a living infrastructure that is smart enough to respond quickly, flexibly, and comprehensively to society's energy needs. Siemens incorporates solutions for commercial and industrial applications as well as smart homes, including building automation, IT systems integration, advanced lighting technology, and energy efficient appliances for a comprehensive Smart Grid solution.
