BASF and CWK sign agreement to market molecular sieves Molecular sieves are crystalline, highly porous moulds used for separation and purification on molecular scale. CWK has been making molecular sieves for over 20 years for various applications. In 2010 a new production plant for special-purpose, binder-free molecular sieves was successfully put into operation. This kind of molecular sieves is primarily used for the production and treatment of industrial gases. BASF will manage the business through its Adsorbents group, which is part of the Process Catalysts and Technologies business. The molecular sieves associated with this agreement are complementary to BASF’s existing adsorbent product portfolio, which includes proprietary aluminas; specialty alumino-silica gels, such as Sorbead® and KC-Trockenperlen®; petrochemical purification products, such as Selexsorb® and PuriStar®; and bentonites, such as F-24 and NovaSil™.
