Mike Winkel appointed new CEO of E.ON Climate & Renewables 06.05.2011 + + + E.ON has appointed Mike Winkel (40) as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of E.ON Climate & Renewables. As of 1 June he will succeed Frank Mastiaux, who last November took charge of a new corporate unit intended to significantly expand E.ON’s business outside Europe. Mike Winkel is stepping down from the posts of Deputy General Director of E.ON Russia and OGK-4, where he was responsible for energy business and optimisation. His successor to those posts will be announced shortly. Mike Winkel studied business administration and joined the E.ON predecessor company PreussenElektra AG in Hanover in 1997. From 2000 onwards, he was in charge of power supply strategy at E.ON Energie in Munich, before assuming responsibility for Market Management as well as Trade & Optimisation at the parent company E.ON AG in Düsseldorf from 2004 to 2008. In 2009, Winkel joined the Board of E.ON AG’s Russian power generation subsidiary in Moscow. Mike Winkel is not just a strategically minded manager but also - something that is even more important - very good at implementing those strategies. Given his operational and international experience, he is the ideal person for achieving our ambitious targets." In 2010, E.ON invested over € 1 billion in renewables. Investments amounting to another € 2.6 billion are envisaged for the period from 2011 to 2013. In total, E.ON already operates 84 wind farms worldwide.
