E.ON showcases tomorrow`s energy today

05.07.2011  + + + As part of its International Research Initiative (EIRI), E.ON is today inviting over 50 scientists from Europe, Australia and America to a conference in Birmingham, UK, to discuss tomorrow’s energy. Whether they are huge energy balloons anchored on the seabed or mobile phones producing their own power – all the research projects presented at the conference have one goal in common: to make energy supply cleaner and better.

The International Research Initiative so far has been funded with EUR18 million and is fully sponsored by E.ON. Up until now the initiative has supported 24 innovative projects in universities and research institutions across the world. The funding does not require contract research to be carried out for E.ON. The research findings remain the researchers’ property and are made available to the public by means of publications.

‘Through the global program, E.ON has offered funding via its Research Award. Over the past years it has supported projects concerning the storage of heat from Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) and nanotechnology in energy supply – both of which provide promising solutions for cleaner and better energy supply. The first round of awards supported ten international projects focused on energy storage – an important technology for the future of renewables and distributed energy generation.

The results of all these projects are incorporated into E.ON’s own activities and into the energy sector as a whole ... more
