Overwhelming Acceptance for Westfalia Separator® eagleclass

18.01.2011  + + +  GEA Westfalia Separator Group officially launched the Westfalia Separator® eagleclass in September 2008 on the occasion of the last SMM. This OSE series represents the fifth generation of self-cleaning mineral oil separators. The acceptance on the market was overwhelming. Today over 90 percent of contracted orders currently contain the new OSE separators.

Focus precisely on the quality of the fuel and lube oils

Since the initial launch, more than 90 percent of contracted orders have included the new OSE separators of the Westfalia Separator® eagleclass. An optimum transition without any complications. The OSE type has been spontaneously accepted by users throughout the world. There are of course reasons for this situation. This is because the new high-performance separators of the Westfalia Separator® eagleclass focused precisely on the quality of the fuel and lube oils.

Westfalia Separator® unitrolplus -
fully automatically monitor and control the oil treatment process.

Thanks to Westfalia Separator® unitrolplus, they are able to fully automatically monitor and control the oil treatment process. This new generation of sensors precisely measures the water content and also very precisely measures the contents of the bowl with regard to sludge caking. In this way, an even more precise volume of displacement water can be used for final oil displacement before the discharge process, thus further minimising oil losses and contributing to maximum separating efficiency.

Spare part availability of 25 years for previous generation

If orders for OSD separators had been placed for entire series of vessels before the introduction of the Westfalia Separator® eagleclass, the deliveries can easily cover a period of several years. And this is the reason why we will continue to build the types of the previous OSD generation for several years to come, at least until all outstanding series of ships have been completed. As is normal at GEA Westfalia Separator Group in the event of a type change, separators of the previous generation are still available ten years after the changeover to a new generation. This is similarly applicable for supplies of spare parts. For all separator generations, GEA Westfalia Separator Group guarantees that spare parts will be available for 25 years, even after a series has expired. This knowledge in the market concerning the reliability of supplies of spare parts has also been a factor behind the smooth transition.

Advantages: lower space requirement and energy consumption, improved cost benefit ratio

However, the users are particularly impressed by the advantages of the new generation, the 30 percent reduction in energy consumption of the Westfalia Separator® eagleclass compared with the OSD generation, the lower space requirement and the improved cost benefit ratio. In times of rapidly rising energy costs, smaller drive motors take account of the mandatory requirement for reducing energy costs, and permit a significant reduction in energy consumption and operating costs. A completely new bowl design has reduced the number of parts subject to wear by around one third, ensuring that the operator is able to more easily operate the equipment which in turn has lower maintenance requirements, and of course also lower costs for spare parts.

Not only has the new Westfalia Separator® eagleclass been a complete success in the marine sector; it has also been a complete success in the Energy and Oil & Gas Business Lines.
