GL Noble Denton & Marine Cybernetics:
New partnership for safer power and control systems in the offshore industry

13.04.2011 - GL Noble Denton, the global independent technical advisor to the oil and gas industry, has partnered with control system software testing specialist Marine Cybernetics, to improve performance, reliability and planning for all types of offshore vessels.

The partnership will see GL Noble Denton's Dynamic Positioning experts offer extensive failure mode effects and criticality analyses (FMECA) services on clients' offshore vessels - with Marine Cybernetics providing testing and verification of control system software using Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing technology.

HIL testing will play a key role in assisting vessel operators to reduce risk for incidents and accidents, reduce risk for off-hire and non-productive time, secure safe and reliable operations, and flawless start-ups.

"By combining the FMECA and HIL processes our partnership with Marine Cybernetics has produced a unique combination of hardware and software testing that is of clear benefit to the offshore oil and gas industry," Bob Thomson, Group Director Dynamic Positioning, GL Noble Denton, stated. "There is no doubt that the results of our collaboration will provide vessel operators with a much more comprehensive assessment of the redundancy, fault tolerance and integrity of a whole range of onboard systems including DP, power management, thruster control and redundant propulsion."

Arne Kjørsvik, Chief Market Officer at Marine Cybernetics, said: "The cooperation between GL Noble Denton and Marine Cybernetics will strongly enhance the verification and validation of maritime and offshore control systems. FMECA and HIL are complementary services with benefits to all concerned from close coordination and cooperation during project execution."
