Siemens technology powers two American deepwater platform supply vessels

15.08.2011 + + + Bay Shipbuilding Company in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, USA, has awarded the Siemens Division Industry Solutions a multimillion Euro contract to equip two platform supply vessels (PSV) with a diesel electric propulsion system. The ships are being constructed by Tidewater Marine LLC, a Tidewater Inc. subsidiary. They are slated for delivery in the fourth quarter of 2012 and the second quarter of 2013 respectively.

Tidewater Inc. provides marine support services for the offshore energy industry. With a large vessel fleet and a broad global footprint it serves customers operating in more remote, deeper and increasingly hostile environments. Siemens will outfit two new PSV of Tidewater Inc. with a Bluedrive™ multi-drive low-voltage propulsion system. It improves reliability due to failsafe features that will help the vessel owner lower maintenance costs, increase efficiency and operational ease for the vessel and crew. The Siemens scope of supply also encompasses the main generators, main propulsion and thruster motors, switchboards and power management system. The ship's automation system Siship IMAC will perform monitoring, alarm and control functions for the electrical equipment on board. Furthermore Siemens will install a unique, fully integrated electrical fire-fighting system, and is responsible for designing, engineering, commissioning and the project management of the diesel electric and automation system.

Designed to carry a wide variety of cargoes, the two new PSVs can transport substantial amounts of fuel, water, drilling fluids, and dry bulk in below-deck tanks, while simultaneously transporting casing, drill pipes and containers on open-decks. Certified by the American Bureau of Shipping, each PSV will be 92.5 meters long and 19 meters wide. They will be capable of speeds of more than 14 knots.

Siemens Bluedrive™ is a trademark of Siemens and its affiliates in some countries.
