Siemens awarded maintenance contract by Turkish oil refinery

26.11.2010 + + + The Turkish Petroleum Refineries Corporation Tupras (Turkiye Petrol Rafinerileri Anonim Sirketi) has contracted Siemens to service and maintain around 1500 motors in its Istanbul refinery. The maintenance contract will run for three years, and is intended to contribute toward both increasing plant availability and reducing maintenance costs and downtimes.

Tupras, a Turkish oil refining company refines 28.1 million tonnes of crude oil per annum in countrywide four refineries. The company has contracted the service and maintenance of a total of 1500 motors in its Istanbul refinery to Siemens, with the goal of raising plant availability and avoiding production downtimes. The contract covers the assessment, condition monitoring, testing, repair and the entire maintenance management of the motors for the next three years. The motors are used as pump motors are used for transporting diverse liquids, or as blower motors for powering ventilation and extraction fans in certain parts of the plant and processes. They are also used to drive slide valves in the pipes and tank farms, and as compressor motors to transport and compress gases. This all makes them critical components in the refinery. Siemens experts will handle the individual maintenance cycles on site under a motor management program (MMP). The goal is to reduce unplanned downtimes by comprehensively overhauling all the motors in use, and reduce costs sustainably with predictive maintenance. The service lives of the motors should also be lengthened.

With the MMP, Siemens offers service solutions for every aspect of industrial drive technology. The maintenance program has a modular structure, and covers both consulting and engineering solutions, information management, on-site and support services, as well as inventory management. The support offer covers services such as condition monitoring, maintenance and servicing – also available as an emergency service – or overhauls and repairs. The goal is to maximize plant efficiency and minimize production losses.
