KAOMBO Offshore Project in Angola
Total launches ultra-deep offshore development

April 14, 2014  + + +  Total and its joint venture partners have made the final investment decision to develop the ultra-deep offshore Kaombo project in Angola. With a production capacity of 230,000 barrels per day, Kaombo will develop estimated reserves of 650 million barrels. Following an intensive optimization exercise, the project’s capital expenditure to reach full capacity was reduced by 4 billion dollars to 16 billion dollars, with an expected start-up in 2017.

Located approximately 260 km offshore Luanda in water depths ranging from 1,400 to 1,900 meters, the Kaombo project will develop six of the 12 discoveries already made on Block 32. The six fields (Gengibre, Gindungo, Caril, Canela, Mostarda and Louro) cover an area of 800 km2 in the central and southeast part of the block.

The Kaombo development scheme includes 59 subsea wells, connected through around 300 km of subsea lines, to two floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessels, each with a production capacity of 115,000 barrels per day. The two FPSOs will be based on conversions of very large crude carriers (VLCCs) into production units. Associated gas will be exported to the onshore Angola LNG plant. Source: www.total.com

Saipem awarded FPSO contracts in Angola

April 16, 2014  + + +  Saipem has been awarded two contracts in Angola by Total, for a combined total of more than $4 billion. The main contract is worth more than $3 billion, and is an EPCI for the engineering, procurement, installation and commissioning of two converted turret-moored Floating Production Storage and Offloading units (FPSO) for the Kaombo Field Development Project, located in Block 32, offshore Angola. Saipem has also been awarded a seven-year contract of approximately $1 billion for operation and maintenance services of the two vessels.

The two converted FPSO units, owned by Total, will each have an oil treating capacity of 115,000 barrels per day, a water injection capacity of 200,000 barrels per day, a 100 million scfd gas compression capacity and a storage capacity of 1.7 million barrels of oil. The scope of work of the contract includes engineering, procurement, conversion of the tankers, fabrication and integration of the topsides of the FPSO units and the installation of the mooring systems, as well as the hook-up, commissioning and operations start-up. Saipem will provide seven years of operation and maintenance services for the FPSO units. Source: www.saipem.com

Technip Heerema Alliance wins major Kaombo subsea contract

April 16, 2014 + + + Total E&P Angola has awarded the Technip/Heerema Marine Contractors (HMC) consortium a $3.5-billion contract for the deepwater Kaombo project in block 32 offshore Angola. This is the largest SURF (subsea umbilicals, risers, and flowlines) contract ever issued, according to HMC Chairman Pieter Heerema. Technip’s share is around 55% and HMC’s around 45%.

The consortium will perform engineering, procurement, construction, installation (EPCI), and pre-commissioning of the subsea facilities in water depths up to 2,000 m (6,662 ft). The scope covers: 18 rigid single top tension risers (STTRs), including buoyancy tanks around 40 m (131 ft) high and 6 m (20 ft) in diameter ... flexible top riser jumpers, and riser base spools ... Roughly 300 km (186 mi) of rigid pipe-in-pipe production and single pipe injection pipelines ... Numerous subsea structures, piles, and steel jumpers ... Additionally, the duo will transport and install around 115 km (71.5 mi) of client-supplied umbilicals, manifolds, well jumpers, and flying leads.

Heerema is responsible for the riser systems as well as the deeper and heavier pipe-in-pipe (18-in. and 12-in.) production pipelines. Technip’s responsibilities include flowlines, flexible pipe manufacturing and installation, umbilical installation, hook-up, and pre-commissioning. More: Technip and Heerema Marine Contractors

Aker Solutions wins subea production system contract

April 15, 2014   + + +   Aker Solutions won a contract worth NOK 14 billion from Total to provide a subsea production system for the Kaombo Block 32 development in Angola. Aker Solutions will deliver 20 subsea manifolds and 65 vertical subsea wellsets. The order also includes associated controls as well as work-over and tie-in systems. The first deliveries are scheduled for the second quarter of 2015.  Kaombo, one of the world's largest subsea developments, is located in block 32 about 150 kilometers off the coast of Angola ... more
