Siemens receives grid connection order
for Dudgeon offshore wind farm



Sept. 04, 2014 + + + Siemens has received an order for the turnkey delivery of the grid connection for the Dudgeon offshore wind farm. The customers are the Norwegian utilities Statoil and Statkraft, which are jointly implementing the wind farm off the coast of the U.K. Siemens will supply the entire power transmission system, including the two transformer substations – one onshore and one offshore – for the 402-megawatt (MW) project. Siemens had previously received an order in August to deliver 67 wind turbines in the new 6-MW class as well as to maintain the wind farm. The grid connection is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2016, and the installation of the wind turbines is expected to begin in early 2017. With a transmission capacity of 402 MW, Dudgeon will supply climate-friendly energy for over 410,000 British homes ....

 
ABB launches world´s most powerful underground and
subsea power transmission cable system



August 21, 2014  + + +  ABB has announced a breakthrough in cable technology. It has successfully developed and tested a 525 kilovolt (kV) extruded high-voltage direct current (HVDC) cable system to make renewable energy installations more efficient and cost-effective. This latest innovation will more than double the power capacity to about 2,600 megawatts (MW) from 1,000 MW. It will also expand the cable's reach to distances of 1,500 kilometers, up from less than 1,000 kilometers, while keeping transmission losses under 5 percent. The new cable offers a 64 percent increase over 320 kV, currently the highest voltage deployed for this type of technology. Siemens receives order for 67 wind turbines
for Dudgeon offshore wind power plant



August 21, 2014 + + + Siemens Energy has received an order from the Norwegian energy utilities Statoil and Statkraft for the "Dudgeon Offshore Wind Farm" in the UK. Siemens will manufacture, deliver, install and commission 67 Siemens direct-drive wind turbines rated at 6 megawatts (MW) each and equipped with a 154-meter rotor. Installation will start in early 2017. The combined value including a five-year-service contract is approximately GBP 500 million – nearly 650 million Euros ....

The vessels will also assist with accommodation of the offshore facilities personnel.
